This revenue will be lost if I lose my business and income. Will the cultural center pay full taxes? Is it a not-for-profit? In 2014, I paid $18,830.14 in property taxes.Īs a business, I also paid a sizeable amount of sales taxes, some of which does come back to Kingston. I cannot imagine the havoc so many cars vying for space would bring. But the city is only requiring 51, and the center is only offering to provide 18-41, depending on if they can get the zoning laws changed. If you calculate the occupancy of the center, there should really be 150 parking spots required by the city. I love this area, my restaurant is part of Abeel Street, a civic-minded member. It is a struggle of gut-wrenching proportions for me. If we lose customers, we will lose our businesses. This parking problem could very well force some of us to close our doors. Residents do not want to park blocks away from home, especially in inclement weather or at night. I decided to get the street corn chowder hoping it would warm me up and it sure did. Super happy we did We sat outside and it was a bit chilly as the sun was blocked and it was a bit windy. Saw Diego's and decided to give it a try. Bringing a vast commercial entity like the cultural center onto this small street, without sufficient and dedicated parking, will hurt all of us. Walking around after we visited the Kingston farmers market we got hungry. This is a vibrant neighborhood that struggles for parking spaces today. This is a renaissance that I have hoped for. It is thrilling to see wonderfully restored buildings being turned residential and all the new faces these apartments bring to the neighborhood. Lack of parking has been a problem for all businesses, residents, church attendees and visitors, and the proposed center would make the situation intolerable. And again. As owner of the Armadillo restaurant, who has operated on Abeel Street for 30 years, I am extremely worried about the Irish Cultural Center project and problems it will cause with parking on Abeel Street and the surrounding area. The decor is cute and Mex-American, and I will be back again. Overall, the Armadillo more than satisfies, and the restroom, while cramped, is quite useable. We are open for dine-in Craving your Armadillo favorite but unsure about dining in Our take-out is going strong from 11 am to 7 pm every day of the week Order directly at 97 for carry-out, or order on Doordash. It's still within the bathroom, and I'm sure it's meant to let in light and make it feel bigger, but nope. Also, not so sure I like seeing the floor outside while I'm inside. Good idea to put the soap over the faucet and under the mirror, but the paper towels still feel a tad awkward.Ĭute hook, but maybe people don't understand how to use it? Not sure why all the scratches. The problem with a tiny bathroom is trying to fit everything you need to have. You can see here that there won't be much knee space when inside. While entirely serviceable, the space was obviously originally intended as a single-use space. When I got to the restroom, what did I find? To get to the restroom, I had to go around the back, which felt a little like I was in the wrong place (I wasn't. As far as the seating goes, the only problem with being outside is that the interior and exterior are not very well connected. ![]() With inside and outside seating, it is a lovely place. ![]() Not only do they give you a lot of food, but it is absolutely delicious, and the owner is always friendly, offering a smile to all who enter. With burritos nearly as big as your head, I love going to the Armadillo. In a neighborhood that still feels up and coming, this restuarant is a big draw to the area. The Armadillo has been around for a long time.
